FEDORA's Activities

From March 15 to 18, 2025, members of the FEDORA Funding Programmes Team took part in Opera Europa’s Next Generation spring conference, hosted by Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. This key industry event brought together professionals from across the opera world to explore the future of artistic talent, management, careers, and audience development. The conference, which was structured around the highly anticipated premiere of Lohengrin directed by Katharina Wagner, provided an inspiring platform for discussing the sector's evolution.

During the conference, Opera Europa introduced its new President: Martin Glaser, Director General Designate of Národní divadlo Prague and Director of Národní divadlo Brno. The event also served as the ideal occasion to welcome five new Board members elected in Barcelona: Laura Canning of Opera North, Serge Dorny of the Bayerische Staatsoper, Plamen Kartalloff of Sofia National Opera and Ballet, Beata Klatka of Polish National Opera, and Lilli Paasikivi of Bregenzer Festspiele GmbH.

Sustainability was a central theme, with discussions focused on integrating environmentally responsible practices within opera institutions. As part of FEDORA’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability in the performing arts, we are collaborating with Opera Europa and Theatre Green Book to support opera and dance organisations in their transition to sustainable practices. To further this initiative, 10 representatives from European opera houses, festivals, and dance companies will be selected to ensure a diverse range of experience, scale, and geographical representation. Our goal is to help participating institutions to achieve at least the basic level of Theatre Green Book within 12-18 months, leveraging the expertise of the opera and dance sectors to accelerate change.

The conference also marked the official launch of Opera Europa’s Young Artists Programmes Forum and the first convening of its CEO Forum, reinforcing a collective commitment to fostering new talent and leadership.

Throughout the event, our team engaged in insightful discussions with industry leaders, gaining valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of opera and cultural management. We look forward to continuing these conversations and exploring new opportunities for collaboration within the European performing arts community.
